Longest Drive And Coming Up Short Of The Green

Here are three things we thought You Should Know this week:

1. Longest drive: Know anyone who can tee it up and hit their driver 420 yards? I do. And if you read below, you’ll see he might be hitting it 500+ yards soon!

It’s Jeffrey Hunter of Canaccord Genuity in Calgary. Click here to check out this beautiful swing.

No wonder Jeff’s going into a World Long Drive competition soon!

I found out about Jeff’s talent from his business partner, David Townshend, while visiting Dave and Jeff in Calgary last week. It took a little prying, but here’s what I finally got Jeff, who would never blow his own horn, to let me know about his amazing talent:

I will be competing in the World Long Drive Regional Event in La Salle, Colorado June 9-11. This is the fourth event and will host the longest drivers in the world including last year’s champion Martin Borgmeier from Germany. World Long Drive was revitalized after US Open Champion, Bryson Dechambeau, came in second last year and includes 4 televised events later in the year for the Men’s, Women’s, Amateur and Senior’s Championship.

“Golfers hit a series of 6 balls against a group of competitors with the longest drive being recorded. The exciting part of Colorado is the elevation and it is expected that the first 500 yard+ drive will be recorded. To put everything into perspective, the PGA tour’s average ball speed (speed the ball comes off the driver) is 171.65 MPH with the top player, Brandon Matthews, topping 190MPH. Recently, Australian’s Seb Twaddell, an WLD competitor, just broke the world record at 240.8 MPH ball speed – almost 50mph faster than Brandon Matthews and he did it with a clubhead speed of 169.6mph which is almost the same speed at the PGA Tours average ball speed.

“I am new to the sport and have had a couple recorded ball speeds of over 200mph. My first live event was at the Canadian Amateurs and qualified in 3rd place with 363 yards using a regular length driver. There was no wind the day of the event and it was done at a driving range where there was no elevation change. I have hit a few over 400 yards. Longest was a drove at 420 yard par 4.

“Might be worth noting, two of the most recognized world long drive champions are Albertan. 5-time World Long Drive Champion Jason Zuback who is considered the Greatest of All Time and 2-time winner, Jamie Sadlowski, from St. Paul, Alberta”

Want to join Peterson Capital and kick in a few dollars  to sponsor Jeff at the World event on June 9-11? Let me know and I’ll connect you directly with him.

2. Tell us about your charity golf tournament: Got a charity golf tournament coming up soon? Tell us about it - we’ll make a donation and spread the word.
So very many of the capital markets professionals we work with across Canada and in Europe are involved in golf tournaments for worthy charities this summer. Send me details of your tournament and the cause and we’ll include it in this YSK email. More than 2,000 capital markets professionals across Canada and Europe read it every Wednesday - you never know who might find your cause worth supporting.

3. Talk about coming up short of the green:

Here’s our roadshow schedule next week: Sundie Seefried of Safe Harbor Financial (SHFS-Q) will be in New York with Peterson Capital’s Greg Stumph before heading to Calgary and Vancouver with Bob Mawhinney and me. Craig Golinowski, CEO of Carbon Infrastructure Partners will provide insights on why there’s never been a better time to be in oil & gas to our IA network in Vancouver and Calgary with Bob and me next week before heading over to Atlantic Canada and Europe.

If you’d like more details and want to connect with our VPs for any of these meetings, drop me a line.

Thank you so much for your continued support and interest.
